The new Deck has been built by BMC as an ongoing part of offering more urban spaces to the public of Mumbai & Inaugurated by Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, on 9th February 2022. It was named as “Mata Rambai Ambedkar Smruti Viewing Deck” dedicated to Rambai Ambedkar, wife of Dr. BR Ambedkar. It was a stormwater outfall modified strategically into nice positioned viewing deck.
Overview of the New Viewing Deck
The new deck is constructed on 26 pillars and can accommodate about 300 visitors at a time (as per officials). The deck also has a seating arrangement for around 100 people. In total, 130 different types of trees have been planted as part of the environment-friendly decision and provide fresh breath of air in the fast-moving metropolitan city. For uninterrupted viewing, the Mumbai administration has decided to keep the deck open at night. Erected LED lamps add charm to the place in night view.
Many Visitors used to climb on the redundant outfall to take selfies and photos of the Sea Link. With this move, it created a strengthened outfall area & new tourist attraction with lovely views. Meanwhile, the BMC is also constructing another view deck at Girgaon Chowpatty above an SWD outfall, which is expected to open after two months.
