Gangtok is the capital city of the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim, located in the Himalayan range. Rumtek Monastery, around 23 kilometers from Gangtok, on a mountaintop, lies the Buddhist monastery. One of Sikkim's biggest monasteries, it houses a number of priceless religious treasures and artifacts.  Tsomgo Lake, around 38 kilometers away from Gangtok lies the glacier lake. It is a well-liked location for boating and picnics and is bordered by snow-capped mountains. Nathu La Pass, around 54 kilometers from Gangtok, is a mountain crossing that separates India and China. It is a well-liked tourist location that provides stunning views of the Himalayas. Hanuman Tok is a Hindu shrine to Lord Hanuman that is situated around 11 kilometers from Gangtok. It provides expansive views of the city and is situated at an elevation of 7,200 feet.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport, which is located around 124 km from Gangtok. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to reach Gangtok. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, which is located around 120 km from Gangtok. From the railway station, you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to reach Gangtok. Gangtok is also connected by road to major cities in India and can be reached by bus or taxi.
