Madhavpur Mela commenced in the Madhavpur village near sea in Porbandar, Gujarat. Inauguraed by president Shree Ram Nath Kovind, the annual fair is unique celebration of cultural diversity of India. As per the beliefs, Lord Shree Krishna had tied the nupital knot with Rukmini at the land of Madhavpur. The mela is confluence of east and west cultures glorifying cultural heritage.
At the inauguration ceremony, President said, he is happy to see the laborious people of Gujarat to balance the work and culture very well. The fair is celebration of India’s cultural, spiritual and social unity.
About the Madhavpur Mela:
The Madhavpur Mela of Gujarat shares it’s connection to the Mishmi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. The Mishmi Tribe traces its ancestry to the legendary King Bhishmak and through him to his daughter Rukmini and Lord Krishna. The festival celebrates the immortal journey which Rukmini undertook from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat with Lord Krishna. Bhismaknagar, located near Roing in the lower Dibang Valley district, also finds mention in Kalika Purana.
The fair has been organised every year by Gujarat Government in association with central government since 2018. At the Fair, visitors can find haats displaying Arti crafts from various states of west and north-east India. There are games, fun rides, merry go rounds and many more things to enjoy with family.
Even PM Narendra Modi had also shared the highlight of event at Mann ki Baat emphasising the theme and joyful spirit of Madhavpur Ghed Fair. He has termed the fair as and example of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.
