The Hola mohalla festival is one of the most significant festivals of the Sikh community. This festival is all about exploring the essence of Punjabi culture. This year the holla mohalla festival will be celebrated from March 8th to March 10th, usually followed by the celebration of Holi.
Organized at a grand scale in the city of Anandpur sahib, which is located in the state of Punjab. The procession takes place in the Takth Sri Keshagarh Sahib in Anandpur, one of the five takhts of India holding special historical significance.
Mohalla is another word for an organized procession, whereas Hola refers to an army's charge. Hola Mohalla, started by the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is a gathering of Sikhs who demonstrate their mastery of swordsmanship, martial arts, and horseback riding. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was renowned to be a formidable fighter and the leader of the Sikhs against Aurangzeb and the Mughals empire.
This festival goes on for three days and includes various activities such as martial arts displays, poetry recitals, and music performances. The highlight of the festival is the Nagar Kirtan procession, which involves the Sikh community carrying the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of the Sikh religion, in a grand procession through the streets of Anandpur Sahib.
As a result, Hola Mohalla has come to be associated with joy and a festive procession of people playing the martial art of Gatka, enjoying the abundance of food given at numerous food stalls, and listening to calming hymns pronouncing the name of God.
