All you need to know about the Elephanta festival this February

As per the latest reports, Mumbai is all set to host the famous cultural festival Elephanta festival organized by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). This announcement was made by Maharashtra DGIPR. The goal of this festival is to promote tourism and culture in Mumbai. 

It is a platform to witness the great cultural diversity of the region. It includes a mixture of classical and contemporary dance and music performances and is celebrated every year in February. During the days of this festival, the cave is transformed into an open-air auditorium. Famous and well-known musicians and dancers from all over the country come and participate in this event. It is one of the best tourist attractions in Mumbai. 


The event is held near Elephant Island which is known for its rich and unique heritage. This place was called Gharapuri before which means a peaceful living place for lord shiva. The island is about 11km away from Mumbai, you can reach this place by ferry from the Gateway of India It is a two-day festival that is planned to take place between 12-15 February.

Highlights of the event:

· Folk songs- Various folk performances are presented in the festival but the most famous being the fishermen singing their local folk songs. 

· Classical music and dance - Famous classical singers and dancers perform in the open-air auditorium showcasing their talent to the mass public. The various classical dance performances include Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, and many more. 

· Bollywood singers - several famous Bollywood singers are also seen in this event singing their famous chartbuster songs. 

· Market - People can also have a look at the local market for shopping. The market has several shops ranging from handicrafts to gifts and clothes etc.
