International Yoga Day: A pandemic trek return to Mysuru’s splendor with PM’s aid

The 8th International Yoga Day has arrived and is taking place at the yoga hub of India, Mysuru. With the popularity and international status, yoga has garnered audience from all over the world. This form of meditation and mindfulness has a lot of history embedded with it in the city of Mysuru.

The father of modern yoga, Guru Krishnamacharya is said to have been the force in giving yoga its importance in today’s day and age. His disciple Guru Pattabhi Jois continued with the teaching of Astanga Yoga which is the very form of yoga made popular by Krishnamacharya. With so many forms and Mysuru’s history, the yoga tourism of the nation was booming before the pandemic. Even though online classes were being held to keep the discipline going, the lack of audience declined Mysuru’s touch with its history long meditative discipline. Though the affected yoga tourism from the pandemic is now blooming back with the Prime Minister showing his support for yoga and its importance by attending the celebration of this art form.

Our beloved Prime Minister seems to be an avid enthusiast and promoter of yoga for a healthy lifestyle and mind. Multiple interviews have highlighted his interest and the time he devotes to sharpen his discipline. The Prime Minister’s presence will certainly improve the exciting yoga tourism suffered by Mysuru over the years and might also help the city overcome the crisis by relieving the traffic of foreigners and locals who actively searched to induce themselves in meditation and mindfulness.

The types of forms and the number of yoga institutes in Mysuru is on the rise since, and now post-pandemic is showing results as tourism has opened up to people seeking the discipline from across the globe. With more people coming to see the Prime Minister and the city’s mastery in Yoga, this International Yoga Day will seem to bring a change and grow the art of yoga to new heights.

On occasion of IDY, Ministry of Tourism is executing several programs to run in various states. All are based on theme of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. With yoga mats in hand & bliss of healthy environment, abhyas schools have been organized to maintain the spiritual discipline.
