The Proposed project of Delhi-Amritsar-katra Expressway will connect major religious sites, economic centres with reducing travel time. As per the Sources, soon to be develop, Greenfield Expressway would have a total length of 669 kilometres will connect Prime religious Sikh Pilgrim sites at Sultanpur Lodhi, Goindwal Sahib, Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran and Vaishno Devi Temple.
The route will be also beneficial for business travellers as it will connect economic centres as Ambala, Chandigarh, Mohali, Patiala, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Jammu and many others. The Expressway will reduce the distance between Delhi to Amritsar/Katra by approx 40 km and offer travellers to travel from Delhi to Amritsar within 4 to 4½ hours and Delhi to Katra within 6 to 6½ hours, as per Sources.
The Development will appear as good news for pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi and Golden Temple as well. The inititative by NHAI will improve connectivity between th two locations passing through major enroute stops. At present, it takes approx. 8 hours to travel Amritsar from Delhi which would be reduced to less than 5 hours. 12 hours Road journey will get reduced to 7-8 hours journey with the proposed Expressway.
