Celebration of cultural significance of India on National Tourism Day 2022 on 25th January

Every year, 25th January is observed as National Tourism Day with a motive of spreading awareness about new aspects of tourism with conserving our nature. This year it has also emphasis on digital technology in travel sector with virtual tourism need in the pandemic era. Government also highlights the major impact of tourism in country’s economy. 

The theme of the National Tourism Day 2022 is ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourism’ that also relates with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The day is followed by Republic Day where many themes are kept in lieu of travel destinations presenting rich culture, vivid landscapes and heritage of Incredible India. Traditions of India are deeply inherited and woven in our daily lives that attracts tourists form other country to explore India. 

As per the WEF report, Indian tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world and gained 34th position on world chart. After announcing 21st June as World Yoga Day, India is focusing to promote medical tourism with ancient methods of meditation, ayurveda and Yoga. 

The PM of India is a visionary leader and take tourism in a great account. AT the event of virtual inauguration of new circuit house at Somnath in Gujarat, He said, “India looked at tourism in a holistic way to attract more tourists to its rich heritage and spiritual sites.” While facing many challenges in the tourism sector and health crisis due to pandemic, tourism transformation through digitalization is need of time. He focused on four important aspects associated with tourism like cleanliness, facilities, time and innovation. With holistic development approach, tourism development should be implicative of time saving and accurate information about travel places that one should think of exploring their own country before dreaming overseas travel. 

As a great measure to boost tourism, the Indian Government executed a new visa policy in November 2014, allowing tourists and business visitors to obtain a “visa on arrival” at 28 international airports.

History of National Tourism Day

It was 1948, when Tourist traffic Committee came into existence to promote tourism. Indian heritage is famous among world from ancient times which attracts travel enthusiasts from corners of world. With vibrant and magnificent cultural gathering at kumbh Mela, temples of south with architectural magnificence, natural beauty and resources, eternal wisdom of India are key attractions. 

The National Tourism Day has global significance in social, political, financial and cultural values. India has expanded different forms of tourism services as cultural, nature, heritage, educational, sports, medical, ecological, rural and now digital tourism. Due to pandemic, India had organized many travel events virtually and recorded grand success. With different slogans and campaigns by state tourism board, overall motive is to promote Tourism in India that will directly and indirectly impact economy.
