Cholamu Lake is a pristine high altitude lake located in the North Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim. Situated at an elevation of 17,100 feet (5,200 meters), it is considered to be one of the highest lakes in the world. The lake is situated near the Indo-China border and is only accessible to Indian nationals with a special permit. The crystal-clear water of the lake reflects the surrounding snow-capped mountains, creating a picturesque view. The serene ambiance and scenic beauty of the lake make it an ideal spot for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers. The surrounding area is rich in flora and fauna, with alpine vegetation and rare species of animals like the snow leopard, musk deer, and red panda found here.

The lake is also revered by the locals, who consider it to be a sacred site. Legend has it that the lake is inhabited by a local deity, and the lake's water is believed to possess healing properties. Therefore, it is a popular destination for pilgrims who come here to offer prayers and take a dip in the holy waters. The best time to visit Cholamu Lake is from May to October when the weather is pleasant, and the road leading to the lake is open. During winter, the lake is covered with snow and is inaccessible due to heavy snowfall. However, due to its remote location and high altitude, travelers need to be prepared for the harsh climatic conditions and altitude sickness. It is advisable to take necessary precautions, such as acclimatization, warm clothing, and sufficient water.
