Winter Tourist activities get suspended in Ladakh due to fast rising Omicron threat

According to the new omicron update, The Ladakh government announced the cancellation of all winter tourist activities, including the famous Chadar Trek, due to a multiple increase in Omicron cases all over the country. The new variant of COVID-19 is very infectious and fast spreading, but less deadly as per current reports. As a result, the Ladakh administration does not want to take any chances to get tourists influenced by it.

Chadar Trekking is a favorite adventurous activity among tourists. The arduous 105-kilometer trip leads to the freezing Zanskar River. The snow leopard sightseeing tour is another common attraction that was postponed this year. Many travelers wait for the January -February months to enjoy the winter tour and Leh-Ladakh expedition. Many hotels, trip planners, travel companies have to refund or reschedule the trips already booked in advance.

The deputy manager Leh Shrikant Suse took to Twitter and announced the suspension of ChadarTrek 2022, snow leopard sightseeing activity, and other winter tourism activities.

The Omicron infection has also canceled the most popular apricot blossom festival in the Kargil quarter in the January-February period. The 2020 lockdown after devastating pandemic and the border dispute with China already gave a major hit & losing tourism sector. It has worsened the conditions of locals of Ladakh, who are majorly dependent on summer season tourism. With this news, overall yearly income in Leh-Ladakh region gets affected and major point to consider.
