The establishment of eco hubs in 75 locations along the banks of the sacred river of Ganga is being set to action for economic and tourism development.
The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is developing 75 sites as centers for sustainably developing economical growth and tourism to garner tourists’ attraction along with ecological remark. The sites will be promoted by the offerings of location-specific activities such as river excursions, bed and breakfasts, biodiversity monitoring, village visits, jungle safaris, and many others will be made available.
According to rumors, 26 such economical-centers have already developed and became operational in six states along the banks of Gomati, Ganga, Chambal, Yamuna, and Hoogly which has been considered as a piece of the bigger picture of supporting source of revenue activities in the Arth Ganga concept of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
The NMCG Director General, G Asok Kumar further commented about the being of this project which was started by the honorary Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi at the National Ganga Council meeting in Kanpur, 2019. In order to assure the sustainability of NMCG's efforts to revitalize the Ganga and its tributaries, this project will enable river people to interact through economic bridges, and Jalaj is one of its six recognized verticals - livelihood generating.
Jalaj follows a ‘circular economy model whereby locals are encouraged to participate in the preservation of biodiversity, a clean river habitat, and training in sustainable livelihood techniques. Union Jal Shakti (water resources) Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat 26 locations in Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh officially inaugurated the program on August 16 via virtual means. While there are 11 such locations in Uttar Pradesh, there are also six in West Bengal, five in Bihar, two in Uttarakhand, one in Madhya Pradesh, and one in Jharkhand.
Each location for this effort has specific activities that have been selected, and the availability of local resources and environmental factors have been taken into account.
