A great initiative to boost tourism in J&K can be snow sports festival organized by Army in the beautiful places Bhaderwah lying in Doda District of Jammu & Kashmir. The three day long snow fest will begin from 18th February by Army’s Rashtriya Rifles in colloaboration of Jawahar institute of Mountaineering.
Highlights of the snow carnival will be adventure activities as snow-sledging, skiing, snow boarding & more. Other competitions as Snowman building will take place at Thanthera, Jaie Valley, Sartingal and Padri.
Tourists can indulge in various exhibitions as photography, snowman building, live performances by musical band, stalls by tourism department and mountaineering competitions.
If you are unheard of Bhaderwah, then we must tell you, it is gift of God with picturesque setting and often known as Chota-Kashmir. Tourists visit here to enjoy joyous festivals, unique mosaic of culture, deodar forests range amid snow-capped background. Famous attractions in Bhaderwah is camping near lakes, stay in Igloo Huts, Trek to Kailash kund. Seoj Meadow, Chinta Valley, Jai valley, Padri, khellani are popular places to visit in Bhaderwah, Doda. Khani Top and Thuba are ideal for paragliding offering exhilarating descents into the Bhaderwah valley. The mountains overlooking the valley offer abundant camping and trekking opportunities. Hanga Noori to Seoj, Khellani to Seoj, Hanga- Devchatar- Chilli- Khellani. Chinta, Thanala and Padri meadows have wonderful slopes for snowboarding and skiing.
To reach Bhaderwah, you have to travel through Jammu or Udhampur. From Udhampur, drive to Batote, Pul Doda and then finally Bhaderwah.
The objective behind organizing the event was to boost tourism activities that can help in revival of local’s income dependent on travel income. Besides, it will give a best chance to youth to showcase their best skill in snow games. This decision had made the locals very happy as it will create a light of joy after long pandemic.
