Sikkim Government Reopens Nathula and Lake Tsomgo Permits for Tourists

On Wednesday, the Sikkim government began granting permits to tourists who wish to visit Tsomgo Lake and Nathula. A Tourism Department official confirmed that while the lower areas along the Teesta River have been impacted by flash floods, the higher regions remain accessible to tourists. This news offers some relief, as it means that visitors can still explore the beautiful landscapes of Tsomgo Lake and Nathula, despite the recent flooding in the lower areas.

The official also mentioned that the issuance of permits for tourists to explore Tsomgo Lake and Nathula has only recently started. Additionally, several other popular tourist destinations in Sikkim, including Pelling, Namchi, Ravangla, Dara, and South Sikkim, are open and welcoming visitors. This news provides travellers with various options to explore the scenic beauty and cultural richness that Sikkim has to offer.

In addition, the official suggested that tourists consider taking the Lava-Kalimpong route as an alternative way to enter Sikkim. This recommendation comes as the National Highway 10 (NH10), which connects Siliguri in West Bengal to Gangtok, remains obstructed on the West Bengal side. State Public Works Department (PWD) officials anticipate that NH10 will be reopened within a week. However, it is important to note that the segment of NH10 from Singtam to the Rangpo Border is currently operational. This information can be crucial for travellers planning their routes into Sikkim.

On Tuesday night, regions including Tsomgo Lake and Kupup were graced with a beautiful snowfall.
