Keshod Airport in Junagadh District will get operational from April 16

The Keshod Airport was built by nawab of Junagadh for his private use that has been refurbished in late 1980s to begin operations. But due to many circumstances & shortfalls, the flight operations didn’t get success. Finally, The Airport is going to get inaugurated on April 16 to begin flight operations.

It will be inaugurated by Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. For initial weeks, the airport will operate three days a week. The Keshod Airport has been developed at the cost of 25 crores INR under the revival scheme & regional connectivity schemes of Government of India. To begin with, a 72-seater aircraft will fly between Mumbai and Keshod. Once the recarpeting work of runway will get completed, a flight to Ahmedabad would be added. 

The airport is very important for Gujarat Tourism as it is near to commercial city Junagarh and Sasan Gir. The flight connectivity will boost tourism in Sasan and Gir National Park. At present, tourists have to land on Rajkot Airport and drive for 3-4 hours to reach Sasan. Air connectivity will increase to attract international tourists as well to visit Gir, Amba Temple and Somnath Temple.

Keshod City is also a historical city and is developed more to promote tourism. Recently commenced 2.32km ropeway at Girnar Mountain is also gaining weightage from pilgrims visiting Amba Temple located on Mount Girnar in Junagadh. The Temple is 1069 metres above the sea level which can be visited by climbing 9000 stairs. Inaugurated in 2020, the Girnar ropeway is one of the India’s biggest and largest passenger ropeway projects in Asia. Visitors can complete the distance of 2.3 km in just 7-8 minutes to arrive the top of the Girnar mountain.
