Hemkund Sahib
In India's Uttarakhand state's Chamoli district sits the Sikh shrine known as Hemkund Sahib. It is located in the Himalayas at a height of 4,632 meters (15,197 feet) above sea level. Sikhs and Hindus frequently travel to Hemkund Sahib as a place of pilgrimage, and people of different faiths and cultures also go there. A glacial lake and seven mountain peaks that are thought to depict the seven heads of the legendary serpent Sheshnag surround the Gurudwara at Hemkund Sahib. Hindus also regard the lake, known as Hemkund, as a holy place because they think Lakshman, Lord Rama's younger brother, meditated here. The stunning vistas of the Himalayan range along the way make the hike to Hemkund Sahib both difficult and extremely rewarding. From May to October, when the weather is moderate and the walk is less dangerous, is the best time to visit Hemkund Sahib. The village of Govindghat, which is 22 kilometers away from the temple, is where the journey to Hemkund Sahib begins. The base camp for the Hemkund Sahib trip is Ghangaria, which is around a 13-kilometer hike away from Govindghat. The path ascends gradually from Govindghat to Ghangaria and travels through the Valley of Flowers National Park's verdant green trees.
A little settlement called Ghangaria may be found at a height of 3,048 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level. There are various modest hotels and guesthouses there where trekkers may spend the night. It is the final halt before Hemkund Sahib. The next day, a six-kilometer hike is required to go to Hemkund Sahib. The journey from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib is strenuous and difficult; the path includes multiple rocky stretches and steep inclines. Yet, the trip is worthwhile because of the stunning vistas of the snow-capped mountains and alpine meadows along the route. It can take up to three hours to make the last ascent to Hemkund Sahib, which is a hard climb of around 1,100 meters (3,600 feet).
