The Bhagsunag Temple is one of the oldest ancient temples and is situated approximately 3 kilometers from Mcleodganj. It is surrounded by magnificent lakes and lush vegetation. The local Gorkha and Hindu communities hold great regard for this temple, also known as Bhagsunath Temple. The two pools that surround the shrine are revered and thought to possess amazing healing properties.
Along with being surrounded by popular tourist destinations, the majestic temple is also close to the Kotwali Market and Dal Lake. The Bhagsunath Temple is located on the route to the well-known Bhagsu Waterfalls, thus travelers make it a point to stop at the temple and ask for the Almighty's blessings before continuing their journey.
The Snake God, also known as Nag Devta, allegedly lost his cool when King Bhagsu attempted to take water from the revered Nag Dal Lake in Mcleodganj. Afterward, King Bhagsu regretted his actions and constructed the temple to beg the Snake God's pardon. As a result, the Nag Devta is revered in the construction of the Bhagsunath Temple.
