Kinnaur Kailash is a mountain peak that is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists as the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. It is also known as Kinner Kailash or Mount Kinner Kailash. Kinnaur Kailash has a height of 6050 meters and is located in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, bordering Tibet. It is part of the Himalayan range and offers stunning views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, valleys and rivers. The mountain has a distinctive feature: a huge monolithic pillar that stands at an altitude of around 4800 meters. This pillar is known as the Shivling or Shivalinga and is believed to change its color throughout the day.
Kinnaur Kailash can be reached by road from Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, via Reckong Peo, the headquarters of the Kinnaur district. From Reckong Peo, one can take a bus or taxi to Kalpa, a picturesque town that offers panoramic views of Kinnaur Kailash. Kalpa is also a good base for exploring other attractions in Kinnaur such as Sangla valley, Chitkul village, Nako lake and Kamru fort.
