St. John Church

One of Himachal Pradesh's most significant churches is St. John in the Wilderness, which was constructed in 1852. This neo-gothic church, which is close to Dharamshala and on the road to Mcleodganj, was constructed in honor of John the Baptist. This serene building, which is surrounded by dense deodar forests, is well-known for its Belgian stained-glass windows.

The peculiar church is well-known as 'St. John in the Wilderness' because it was constructed among the thick forest. Being one of Dharamsala's oldest structures, it serves as the ultimate resting place for Lord Ergin, viceroy of India and former governor general under the British Raj. It's important to distinguish between this St. John in the Wilderness Church and the church with the same name that's situated in Nainital, Uttrakhand.  St. John in the Wilderness Church is conveniently located on Mallital Road and may be reached by taxi or a local rickshaw. Most rickshaws and cab drivers in Dharamshala will drop you off here because it is a popular tourist destination. You could even take a walk to the chapel while taking in the fresh mountain air if you are staying at or close to Mall Road.
