Jaigad Fort is an ancient fort located in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, India. It was built in the 17th century by the great Maratha warrior king, Shivaji Maharaj. The fort is situated on a cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Sangameshwar River, providing a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
The fort was strategically built to guard the trade routes along the Konkan coast and also to protect the city of Chiplun from foreign invaders. Jaigad Fort was an important defense structure during the Maratha rule and was also used as a naval base to launch attacks on enemy ships.
The fort has a triangular shape and is surrounded by high walls and bastions, which were used to protect the fort from enemy attacks. The main entrance of the fort is through a massive gate, which leads to a courtyard where there is a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh.
