Pratapgadh Fort
Pratapgadh Fort, also known as the "Fort of Pratap," is a historic fort located in the hill station of Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra, India. It was built by Maratha warrior king Shivaji in the 17th century and was named after him as a tribute to his bravery. The fort is situated on a hilltop at an altitude of 1,168 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The fort is surrounded by lush green valleys and is a popular spot for trekking and hiking.
The fort features several structures, including a temple dedicated to the god Vishnu, a palace, and several watchtowers. The palace, which was used by Shivaji as his residence, is now in ruins but still offers a glimpse into the architectural style of the Maratha Empire. Pratapgadh Fort is also known for its historical significance as it played a key role in many battles during the Maratha Empire's reign. The fort was the site of the Battle of Pratapgadh, fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan, the commander-in-chief of the Bijapur Sultanate.
