Sursagar Lake, also known as Chand Talao, is a beautiful and historic lake located in the heart of Vadodara city, in the western state of Gujarat, India. The lake is a popular tourist destination and a cultural landmark of the city, with a rich history and interesting legends associated with it.
The lake was built in the 18th century by the Gaekwad dynasty, the erstwhile rulers of the city, as a water supply source and for recreational purposes. The lake was later renovated and beautified by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in the early 20th century, who added a beautiful garden and a majestic gate, called Kirti Mandir, to the lake complex. Today, Sursagar Lake is a bustling hub of activity, with people coming from all over the city to enjoy its serene and peaceful atmosphere, take a stroll in the garden, or simply relax by the water. The lake is surrounded by beautiful temples, gardens, and historical buildings, such as the Kirti Mandir, the Sursagar Mandir, and the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery.
One of the unique features of Sursagar Lake is the illuminated fountain that adorns its center. The fountain, which was installed in the 1960s, is a popular attraction during festivals and special occasions, when it is lit up with colorful lights and synchronized to music.
