Fontainhas
Fontainhas is a tiny Portuguese village located in the middle of Panaji, Goa's capital. This lovely area is a wonderful example of colonial architecture and a perfect picture of the confluence of Indian and Portuguese cultures. It is famous for its small cobblestone alleys, beautifully painted houses, and distinctive cultural history.
Fontainhas began as a residential district for Portuguese colonial officers and businessmen. The immigrants carried the spirit of Portuguese architecture and culture with them, which can still be observed in modern-day Fontainhas. The residences in this area are brightly coloured, giving them a dynamic and active aspect. The streets are lined with bougainvillaea, which creates a spectacular show of colour, especially during the blossoming season.
