Onset of Gujarat’s Annual Monsoon Festival: ‘Megh Malhar Parv’ 2022 at Saputara

Gujarat is hosting it's annual ‘Megh Malhar Parv’ festival at Saputara to invite tourists from all over the world to explore Gujarat’s culture and lifestyle.

The Gujarat Tourism Development Corporation has outset its annual monsoon festival ‘Megh Malhar Parv’ which began on 30th July and will be coming to an end on 30th August. The festival is held at the only hill station in Gujarat, Saputara has proven to be a good choice because of its popularity as a monsoon destination in tourism. 

Purnesh Modi, Minister of Tourism, launched the festival. Mangalbhai Gavit, President, District Panchayat - Dang, Honorable MP KC Patel, Respected MLA Vijay Patel, Alok Kumar Pander, Managing Director, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd, Bhavin Pandya, Collector (Dang), and other officials also attended the ceremony.

An assortment of events has been organized to engage the tourists in a fun way, some of them being Dahi Handi, Rain Run Marathon, Boat Racing, and Nature Treasure Hunt on Janmashtami. Other activities to increase amusement among people like Dangi dance performances, quiz contests, seminars, and competitions like a musical, rangoli, and photography competitions. 

As the festival is month-long in totality, seminars and workshops also are planned to develop a sense of creativity among visitors. Photography, art painting, bamboo crafting, Warli painting, and other events are some of them.

These events and activities also enhance the focus on Gujarat’s culture and traditions while also highlighting entertainment as well. 

Some popular attractions around Saputara include Saputara Lake, Sunset Point, Gira Waterfalls, Table Point, Sunrise Point, Waghai Botanical Garden, Governor Hill, Balasinor Dinosaur Museum Eco Point, Rope-way, and Shabri Dham. Trek and camping spots like Mahal Eco Campsite, Vanil Eco Den, and Padam Dungri campsite are also popular in the midst of visitors looking for a climb or an outdoor stay. 

Doused in lush greenery, Saputara blooms with beauty during monsoons, hence the reason for this festival. The ‘Megh Malhar Parv’ is an important festival for the people of Gujarat who see a boost in tourism and experience an indulging event along with the crowd. It also brings closure to tourists who are curious about Gujarat’s deeper cultural presence and way of life.
