India is soon to see the introduction of mega-adventure tourism trails that will cater to adventure enthusiasts and thrill-seekers. The Ministry of Tourism, under its ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ initiative, plans to develop more than 100 adventure tourism destinations and circuits across the country. According to the reports, the Ministry of Tourism has recently shared that India will have two more mega-adventure trails this year (2023) which will be the Ganga Trail and the Northwestern Himalayan Trail.
These mega tourism trails will be in the Himalayas and the Ganges region. These mega-adventure tourism trails will offer a wide range of activities including mountaineering, trekking, skiing, rafting, kayaking, and paragliding. The focus will be on sustainable tourism development, emphasizing the conservation of natural resources, and promoting the cultural heritage of the region.
The Narmada Trail from Amarant to the Arabian Sea, the Kaveri River Trail, the West Coast Trail from Kutch to Kanyakumari, and the East Coast Trail from West Bengal to Kanyakumari are just a few of the adventure trails that are now being developed. But for the time being, efforts will be made to first build the two aforementioned trails. The initiative will not only boost adventure tourism but also create job opportunities and promote local tourism. The local community will be trained in various aspects of adventure tourism, including safety, equipment handling, and hospitality.
The initiative is also expected to attract international tourists and establish India as a global adventure tourism hub. The government has allocated a budget of INR 800 crore for the development of the adventure tourism industry over the next few years.
India is a land of diverse topography and has immense potential for adventure tourism. The development of mega-adventure tourism trails will showcase the beauty of the country and encourage travelers to explore and experience the thrill of adventure. It will also provide a significant boost to the tourism industry, contributing to the economic growth of the country.
