Gangotri National Park is one of the most pristine stretches of wilderness in the country. Offering picturesque views of dense coniferous forests, magnificent meadows and glittering glaciers is very famous among tourists for trekking. Expanded in large area of 1553 sq kms & at height of 7083 metres, it is situated near Indo-China Border.
Wait of trekking enthusiast get over as it is going to open for Public from April 1 after a four-month long winter break. Every year thousands of tourists feel the vibes of nature at The National Park filled with rich flora and fauna, snow-capped Himalayan peaks and the Gomukh.
Along with Park, another attraction is 136 metre long & 1.8 metre wide Gartang Gali Skywalk which was opened to public in August last year. The 150-year-old wooden bridge has been restored and maintained to allow tourists for trek. Situated at a height of 11,000 feet in Nellong Valley, gives unexceptional views of surroundings. Believed to be built by Peshawar pathans, it remained damages for several years and finally restored in August 2021. To have a stroll on the Skywalk, there are some guildelines and pre booking at designated office. The bridge has historical and strategic importance and demonstrates the cordial trade relations of the country with its neighbours since ancient times. The brige will reopen the adventure tourism for visitors of Gangotri National Park.
Work of removing snow is still going on, so there is possibility of not finding accommodation & food at the premises. Trekking to Gaumukh Glacier or Tapavan meadow is subject to seeking permission form authorites.
Gangotri is one of the pillars of Chardham sacred destinations.
