India become new home to World’s highest motorable road in Ladakh. Chismule-Demchok road at Umling-La Pass is located in eastern Ladakh at a height of 19,300 feet above sea level. In last week of December 2021, Home Minister of India inaugurated 24 bridges and three roads built by BRO (Border Roads Organization) that shows strong strategic capabilities of India. It was a virtual event in Delhi and execute amid border standoff with China.
Out of the 24 bridges, nine are in Jammu and Kashmir, five each in Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, three in Uttarakhand and one each in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Of the three roads, two are in Ladakh and one in West Bengal. But the limelight was Chismule-Demchok road because of its unbelievable height of 19000 feet in Ladakh.
Here are few important points to know facts about the road:
• The Chisumle-Demchok road creates a position in Guinness World Record for world's highest motorable road by touching the astounding height ever.
• The road spans for 52-kilometre & connects many important towns in the Chumar sector of Eastern Ladakh.
• It will provide a great alternative route for connectivity close to India-China border.
• As per Government, the altitude of the road surpasses the base camps of Mount Everest & Siachen Glacier.
