After fresh snowfall at Manali and nearby places in Himachal, there is an influx in number of tourists in this region. The snowfall and increasing footfalls of snow lovers made hoteliers happy as hotel occupancy has hiked suddenly. Solang valley, Atal Tunnel and Gulaba are prime tourist attractions in Himachal but due to heavy snowfall, tourists are not allowed for few days in a week. The Atal Tunnel will remain shut twice a week from 7:00 am-9:30 am for regular maintenance and vehicles will not be allowed to pass on Mondays and Thursdays starting December 20. (As per Times of India)
Heavy snowfall, which has affected the Manali-Leh highway too slippery for the movement of vehicles, stands as the prime reason for the restrictions placed on tourists. However, this is not the first time that these regions in Himachal have been kept under restrictions. Tourists safety is utmost important.
Built under the Rohtang pass, the Atal tunnel is the world’s longest highway tunnel and is a popular destination for travellers looking to experience snowfall in the region. Travellers planning for Christmas in Winter Wonderland of Himachal must check weather updates and latest guidelines before visiting.
