The golden joint of the world’s highest bridge was completed on the 13th of August to complete the ever-going project of Chenab Bridge.
The most anticipated project of Kashmir, The Chenab Bridge is finally at a complete witnessing its golden joint on 13th August, Saturday. The joint linked two ends of the deck of the railway bridge. The bridge magnificently constructed with an arch goes over the Chenab River which runs through the Reasi district of Kashmir.
The bridge was inaugurated on the 13th of August and a throng of the audience showed up to show their support for this big achievement shining through. People sang the national anthem as well as burst firecrackers. The entire vicinity was filled with the slogan of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ which means all hail the motherland.
The project was undertaken by a Mumbai-based infrastructure organization, Afcons. The extremely challenging project was made possible through which the Chenab Bridge became the highest railway bridge in the world. It is also just 35m taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Mr. Giridhar Rajagopalan, Deputy Managing Director of Afcons, commented the bridge will see its 98% completion after the joint is completed. The Ministry of Railways also chimed on social media and shared some breath-taking pictures of the bridge for the public.
The bridge has various aspects such as the bridge being made of steel and concrete. It has taken over 1300 workers and 300 engineers to complete this massive project. The bridge can endure extreme winds for up to 266 km per hour. The bridge has been constructed in an earthquake-prone area, hence getting a good design as such helped to negate the threat. It can endure a level 5 earthquake.
The construction has been delayed for now almost 18 years as the weather of this beautiful location poses too many hurdles to engineers and workers. The terrain has also posed to be a challenge as the gorge is in the young Himalayan mountain fold region. For now, the opening has been decided to be by December of this year, let us see how everything regarding this bravura bridge unfolds.
