It is the country's first post office café recently opened by the Indian Postal Department (IPO) at the famous General Post Office in Kolkata as a Siuli restaurant to serve as a philatelic ancillary shop. The café is run by the post office in-house catering department and will remain open from 10 AM to 7 PM. Earlier, the place used to run a small staff canteen at a corner of the hall where the rest of the hall, used as a philatelic ancillary including stamps, mugs, coasters, cushions, brass plates, and much more, which can proceed to be on sale by an in-house team at the café.
The Postmaster General of Kolkata, Niraj Kumar, said that the café is not a decorative one and has parcel reserving counters which can be fully functional. The aim behind this café is to connect ties with the present technology or generation when using the country's postal services to increase parcel deliveries is a step towards the betterment of the people.
This post office café is highlighted with wooden furniture and brightly colored sofa sets and is spread across a 1,450 sq ft area. The area is simply undergoing a refurbishment to give it a contemporary touch. Plus, this spot is not only for about delicious food but also a shopper paradise where one will be able to find trinkets, t-shirts, cups, and much more on sale.
