Tourism vertical is emerging as potential driver of Growth for Country’s Economy with a significant impact in job creation, infrastructure development and social inclusion. With sustainable development and growth, tourism generate revenues & resources for conservation of National Heritage. Amid crisis of pandemic the most affected sector is tourism that gives an opportunity to reimagine the future of tourism at all levels. Keeping all the key points in view, New tourism Policy 2021 has been proposed by Indian Tourism Ministry.
“Government of India is coming up with new Tourism Policy to strengthen tourism sector to provide top-notch facilities to the tourists.” Said Rakesh Kumar Verma, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism during the inauguration session of the Tourism Week at Expo2020 Dubai.
Tourism Week has been organized by Ministry of Tourism until January 15 that includes various sessions led by state representatives of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha.
Elaborating on the new Tourism policy, He said: “It will create five missions including
- National Green Tourism Mission, to mainstream sustainability in tourism sector with following a destination centric and tourist centric approach
- National Digital Tourism Mission, to digitalize the sector and bring innovation with technology
- Sectoral Mission on skill development, to ensure that the country has the best trained and qualified manpower to maintain high standards of service;
- National Mission on Destination Management, to focus on ensuring synergy and coordination amongst public and private stakeholders and
- National Mission on Tourism MSMEs to support and facilitate the start-ups, micro, small and medium enterprises.”
The Key Objectives of the National Tourism Policy are: (Refrence)
1) To enhance the contribution of tourism in Indian economy by increasing the visitation, stay and spend
2) To create jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities in tourism sector and ensure supply of skilled work force
3) To enhance the competitiveness of tourism sector and attract private sector investment
4) To preserve and enhance the cultural and natural resources of the country
5) To ensure sustainable, responsible and inclusive development of tourism in the country
