The Momasar Utsav is a yearly celebration of traditional music and folk art. The Momasar town in the Bikaner district hosts the two-day event. After a long break from covid-19 pandemic, the festival will see resuscitation, on October 14-15, 2022.
Shri Vinod Joshi, a renowned authority on folk music and the festival's director, is the creator of Momasar Utsav. About 200 folk artists from each of Rajasthan's seven cultural areas participate in this festival, which is a rare fusion.
It is a forum for the arts that embraces individuals of all philosophies, worldviews, and aesthetic preferences. The rich customs of the lovely country of Rajasthan may be observed at this event, participants and attendees can learn more about them. Each year, this remarkable event is attended by around 10,000 people from local villages as well as far-off cities and nations. Folk singing recitals and exhibitions of endangered arts are also held during the event.
Folk art, musical and dramatic performances, including Khejdi Ki Beti, Jugalbandi, Nirguna and Saguna Bhajans, and Kathak (Jaipur Gharana) by artists from all throughout the state, were also on display.
The festival was first held in 2011, and it continued till 2019. The previous edition of the festival was organized on 19-20 October 2019.
The Momasar inhabitants, Jajam Foundation, Dancing Peacock, Gemini Corporation (Belgium), Suravi Charitable Trust Jaipur, Sancheti Tea Company Kolkata, and Mercury Design Jaipur collaborate to arrange the event. Businessmen from Momasar who are not inhabitants contribute financially to a fund to cover the festival's expenditures and lend their empty havelis (mansions) for use as venues.
The Momasar Sarpanch and Gram Panchayat actively participate in festival planning, mobilizing local resources and making crucial choices. Momasar locals give their time in great numbers. A group of local residents oversees the Festival's budget for revenue and expenses.
Residents of the town collaborate to make it a success, making it a true "Community Festival." It's really uncommon to see such a singular incident in today's environment, day and age where people have shifted them to the digitization ways.
